Description

Here's an updated version of a MOC pair I've had for a while now. Here's his gallery folder with old additions. This is the main deviation for Midori and his SKyspeeder.

Midori
Midori is Japanese for "green." He is from Metru nui. Back before the falling of Metru Nui He was one of the most celebrated racers in Le-metru an all of metru nui, even when it came to racing animals which Po-matoran were best at. He was one of only a few Matoran that could beat Matau in a race. After the fall of Metru nui and the matoran's hybernation and migration to Mata Nui Midori somehow kept his knack for racing even though his memory was lost. After the Refounding of Metru Nui Midori was selected to become a Toa. Midori Then crafted the Skyspeeder. Not long after he was recruited by Archimdes for the Kino-aki for his excellence in aerial combat and speed.

Detail layout with alternate angles of Midordi, and mostly the skyspeeder.

3rdeye88 has often said that his smaller creations are unfairly overlooked, and Midori is a reason in itself.

I must admit, I was a little confused the first time I came across this delightful MOC. While masses of silver are relatively popular in the Bionicle community, it is easy for the overall shape to be lost in the process; that may be the case here, but the clutter (particularly at the front of the vehicle) does help towards the manic, futuristic look that 3rdeye88 was going for, and helps this particular skybike towards standing out from all the others. I should also mention that the back half of the bike is very well done indeed, with rounded silver pieces flowing seamlessly whilst keeping the engine structure firmly in mind.

Midori and his skybike are also good examples of "The more you look, the more you see". True, Midori does at first appear like a standard Toa, complete with relatively basic limbs and few armour pieces on the torso (constraints set by the shape of the vehicle, I imagine), but upon a closer look you see the red tints on both his waist and his bike. Of course, 3rdeye88 isn't the first to use the rider-vehicle symmetry technique, but it is an effective move (one which gives the viewer much satisfaction when spotted!) that really complements the wonderfully complex structure.

If you are to learn anything from Midori, let it be this: Size is definitely not everything, and it is certainly worth a closer look to see the quality within.
