About the MOC
The last MOC of 2013 :la:

Dala us the third and most likely final installment of a series between my MOC Isra  Bionicle MOC: Isra by 3rdeye88, and ~Alex-Darkrai's MOC Yuya Bionicle MOC - Yuya by Alex-Darkrai. The idea came to me after noticing that his MOC and mine are both female and have 4 letter names ending with "A" After asking Alex if I could create a series and include yuya, but also write a story for her, he agreed, so I began to make plans. After thinking on it, with isra representing shadow, and Yuya water, there would need to be several other MOCs to "fill out" an elemental theme. So I devised a way to have only three sisters.

Dala-Godess of Fire and Light(fire gives off light after all)
Yuya-Godess of Earth and Life
Isra-Godess of Darkness and Death.

all together they create a symbiotic balance with Isra being the equilibrium between her other two sisters. I've thought extensively about a back story for the three sisters, but more on that will come soon. I've taken and sent Alex some photos of my two sisters. Between him and I(and maybe anyone with better photoshop skills than us) we will digitally place her into the photos to show the relationship between the three sisters, as well as a bit of narrative. When I have those photos I will rearrange the photos, and update the description with the bios. But for now, meet Isra's and Yuya's older sister, Dala.

I had somewhat of a difficult time with Dala. I had to go through a few rebuilds before I got results I was happy with. Here's a look at a few of the designs I was considering(something I don't ordinarily have photos of). Dala was inspired by the Valkyries of Norse mythology. This lead me to the head design which was the first part to be built. It was the only part that I got right on the first try. Every other part of her body went through a redesign at least once. In the end I'm happy with the build, but I would have liked to controlled the color scheme a little bit better. I didn't want so many grays on her as there are. My supply of warm colored connector parts was very low at the time of building this.
Like with Isra, I was going for a style of MOCing similar to Alex's in the sense that he uses a lot of peculiar angled connections and arrangement. I really tried to give a sense of some element or part being at an odd angle throughout her body. When it came to the proportions I was slightly inspired by Korra from Avatar:The Legend of Korra, at least that's what I had in mind when creating her legs. Dala also happened to turn out larger than I anticipated. I initially only had single joints for her arms but had to come back and find a way to Multijoint her. Once I realized she would be as big or nearly as big as Isra I built the legs with stronger joints in mind. I don't know if it shows in these photos, but she does have torso articulation as well.

Critiques would be greatly appreciated as I plan on coming back to her to touch up her color scheme at some point when I can order the right parts. Though I understand her color scheme is very bright and all over the place. I will not be changing the color scheme, but I can certainly rearrange it where possible through recoloring.

Well then, here we are, and there she is. Dala looks like a being that could certainly kick some serious ass, like Korra does, but I do think you made her a bit too much warrior-like and kind of made her look more like someone in Roman armour, where breastplates were also heavily used.

To kind of undo this, my biggest advice would be to thin out the arms a bit. with less bulky arms, like korra herself, she would regain her presence and gender as a female, buff warrior without becoming sexualized or feminine.

That all being said, I do think the build is really nice and uses some great techniques throughout it. The black beams that provide support on the upper legs do stand out from her colour-scheme, but that's understandable. I agree with Eljay about the daggers. I'd rather see her having a short-sword like the average Roman soldier had for secondary arms.

The colourscheme is still something I'm not sure about enturely, as I think there's one colour too much in this moc. This makes it all very complicated to look at but it still looks pretty coherent despite having the entire section of warm colours of Lego crammed into it.

So yeah, nice work man! Certainly not your best moc, but still a good moc. Hope this helped. Cheers!
